Case Study: Why the Field Museum chose Plyboo bamboo for its new China exhibit

We’ve been waiting for months to share photos from one of our most recent Plyboo customers – the Field Museum in Chicago. After years of planning and construction, the museum launched its newest exhibition, the Cyrus Tang Hall of China, on July 8.

The exhibit features large accent walls made of Plyboo Linear Line (LL3 and LL4).

Made entirely of carved Plyboo bamboo panels, the vertically fluted face layer reveals a uniquely graphic inner core. These intersecting surfaces harmoniously suggest the natural, tactile quality of a woven textile that is curious and compelling – ideal for sparking intrigue among museum-goers.

The exhibit also features PlybooStrand (Neopolitan) for the flooring. Plyboo was a perfect fit for this exhibit, as it comes from the Moso bamboo forests of China. A sustainable building material, it is made from 100% FSC-certified bamboo, which is rapidly renewable and free of urea formaldehyde. Plyboo is also extremely durable, an important consideration for such a heavy-trafficked environment.
