Arbor Wood, Now Fire Resistant

Since 2012, Arbor Wood Co. has been an innovator in high-quality, sustainable building materials. Now, through a new partnership with SaferWood, Arbor Wood Co. is launching a groundbreaking line of fire-retardant thermally modified wood, available through Intectural. This collaboration combines Arbor Wood Co.'s expertise in thermally modified wood with SaferWood's advanced exterior fire retardant, Thermex-FR. The new line of wood siding and decking treated with Thermex-FR will initially feature Arbor Wood’s Southern Yellow Pine species, with plans to expand to other species soon.

Arbor Wood Co. is known for producing high-quality thermally modified wood products that offer exceptional durability and aesthetics. This new partnership enhances their offerings with fire-resistant properties, thanks to SaferWood’s innovative FR treatment. This treatment significantly improves the fire resistance of wood products without compromising their natural beauty or environmental friendliness. This product line is designed for architects, builders, and homeowners seeking premium, durable, and fire-safe wood solutions.

In recent years, wildfires have become more frequent and intense. Building codes are evolving to address these challenges, and fire-retardant-treated wood (FRTW) is meeting these demands without compromising quality, aesthetics, or durability. SaferWood’s Thermex-FR treatment makes wood "ignition resistant" as required by the International Building Code (IBC) and International Wildland Urban Interface Code (IWUIC). It also meets Chapter 7A WUI for the California Building Code (CBC) for exterior use in residential and commercial applications where fire-retardant-treated wood is specified as a code-compliant alternative to noncombustible materials. Notably, SaferWood with Thermex-FR is the only FRTW in the world to pass California’s 10-year Natural Outdoor Weathering test and is backed by an industry-best, limited lifetime warranty.

Since 1981, SaferWood has been dedicated to "Protecting Property and Saving Lives" through the advancement of fire retardant technology, code development, and the use of real, natural, sustainable wood. Today, SaferWood with Thermex-FR by Chemco, Inc., is the industry leader for exterior, ignition-resistant, appearance-grade fire-retardant-treated wood, sought by leading architects and developers and accepted by code and fire officials. This partnership between Arbor Wood Co. and SaferWood marks a significant milestone in the evolution of wood products, setting a new standard for safety, durability, and aesthetic appeal in the industry.
